Owen Cantrell (PhD, Georgia State University [2015]) is a scholar, teacher, and writer living in Atlanta, Georgia. He is an Americanist and has written on topics such as Midwestern literature; popular culture and music (Bruce Springsteen, folk music, Walt Disney); and 19th century thinkers such as Abraham Lincoln. 

HIs courses include:  “The Power of ‘Truthiness’: Thinking and Writing Empirically in a Post-Fact World" (ENGL 1101); “We Understand, Then, Do We Not: Narrative and Empathy in Fictional Forms” (ENGL 1102); "Project Labs: Georgia State University Prison Education Project" (PERS 2001 & 2003); "
Make Nostalgia Great Again: Cultural Politics of Nostalgia, 1980-present" (PERS 2003H); and "Just Because You're Paranoid Doesn't Mean They're Not After You: Pop Culture and Paranoia" (PERS 2003H). Owen works as an Assistant Professor of English at Perimeter College, Georgia State University in Alpharetta, Georgia and as a coordinator of the Georgia State University Prison Education Project. He is the winner of several teaching awards, including: Portnoy Prize for Outstanding Honors Faculty at Perimeter College (2020), Teaching for Social Justice and Democracy Teaching Award (2021), and Outstanding Junior Faculty at Perimeter College (2021).
